There are many materials on this topic on the Internet, and we decided to also prepare something like a guide: a clear step-by-step plan with examples from life and life hacks from the pros.
Where do you start?
Of course, it is better, as they say, to be rich and healthy than poor and sick, but jokes aside - it is worth focusing clearly on what you have. Let's throw away useless fantasies and dreams and concentrate on the initial data.
Depending on whether you are a student, a free young man without any completed education or an accomplished specialist with a background, work and a desire to change the field of activity, the algorithm of actions will differ.
Dobby is free! Pros and, unexpectedly, cons
You are studying at a university in a passable social media marketing service faculty, and studying takes less time and effort, or you work part-time, or your job is "don't beat a man when he's down", and you have the opportunity to do other things during working hours, or you are temporarily not working at all ... It is logical that starting on the terms of more free time is more convenient than regular full-time employment.
But there are downsides to having a lot of free time, just as there are upsides to being seriously busy.
When there is a lot of time, there are downsides:
motivation decreases due to the illusion that there is a lot of time and I will have time;
concentration decreases because there is a lot of time, you can spend time on social networks;
there is a problem with time management, despite having time, there is always not enough of it, it is not clear where it goes.
When time is short - advantages
motivation increases because you want to get out of this hell as quickly as possible;
concentration increases because there is little time and no time to be distracted;
time management skills are developed, because without clear time planning and meeting deadlines, nothing can be done.
Here's what Anastasia Kotova, BI Developer at Currency.com and mentor at TeachMeSkills, has to say about this :
- My teaching experience shows that almost all of our students either work, study at university, or are on maternity leave, that is, they have a fairly high level of parallel employment. This only means that with adequate motivation, a person can do anything... Continued in the article.
We also managed to find a young man who purposefully quit a fairly high-paying job in the oil industry in order to fully focus on mastering a new profession. Dmitry did not want his full name and place of work to be published, so we are posting his comment anonymously.
- Combining jobs is not for me, - says Dmitry. - Therefore, having saved up some money, I quit the day after finishing my notice: I was aiming for a year of life without work, but it turned out to be 4 months longer. To understand: at the start, my level of entry into programming was asking my brother to install Windows for me.
Briefly, Dmitry's timeline turned out to be like this:
1 year and 3 months of full-time training (C#, JS, Python, Haskell, Data Bases, HTML/CSS, Cyber Security basics, AI & ML basics, Linux, English)
+ 5 months in parallel (mathematics, philosophy, music, leisure).
At the beginning of 2021, Dmitry successfully passed several interviews, one of which was for a Node.js middle (thanks to his algorithmization skills).
